The Riches of the Destitute
MY UPMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST 


The first Beatitude of the Sermon on the Mount.


Matthews 5:3 (NLT): God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for Him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. 

1. When we are destitute, then and only then have we come to realize our need for Jesus. 

2. Our greatest enemy of realizing our need for Jesus is our natural strengths, talents, and accomplishments.


Matthew 5:3 (MSG): You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule. 

1. Every test from God is designed for us to choose Him and not our natural strengths, talents, and accomplishments which have failed us over and over again. 

2. Biblical suffering is designed for us to come to the end of our rope. To the degree that we decrease is the degree that Jesus can increase in us.
