Tabernacle: God Wants To Dwell With His People
The Feast of Tabernacles in Hebrew is Sukkot. It means booths or
temporary shelters and brings the fall appointed times to their climax. The
booth was temporary. It was designed to be a reminder to the Nation of Israel
that; #1. Egypt was not their permanent home. #2. The wilderness was not
their permanent home. #3. Their security ultimately did not come from
permanent structures. And #4. Their survival depended upon the presence,
provision, and faithfulness of God. Israel lived in temporary dwellings, but
they possessed God’s abiding Presence. Your surroundings may be
temporary, but God’s presence remains your true security. The wilderness
teaches us that our confidence cannot ultimately rest in what surrounds us.
Our confidence must rest in Who dwells among us.
